OK.. Here it is!! Ive put lots of thought into this.. (Not Really but it sounded good)

Today September 16,2011 I am announcing my First Ever Sculpting competition to to celebrate my getting my first job ever as a professional sculptor by being hired 20 years ago by Ral Partha to come work for them..

So I decided to run a sculpting competition to look for new (or old) talent that could eventually work for me (sounds cool huh!)

So Here Are The Details

Im running a contest to sculpt bases.. pretty simple..sculpt a base, send me photos and Ill vote and choose a winner or even winners to continue to do work for me..

What do you win?

1st Prize - is your entry purchased for $50.00 to become property of Dragon Forge Design, Inc. and put into production and a contract to do a complete series! Plus you will get 2 copies of your entry.

2nd Prize -is your entry purchased for $25.00 to become property of Dragon Forge Design, Inc.
and put into production with the possibility of future work with Dragon Forge Design, Inc. and 2 copies of your entry.

Why am I doing this?

Rules

1. All entries must be original work Not using any parts or pieces or Intellectual Property ideas of other miniature and game companies.. In other words NO parts or pieces from things from other game companies miniatures or using their imagery. Any entry will be disqualified if presented with these items.

2. What you can use?

A. For this contest you can use any material like Glues( solvent, CA-Super Glues, PVA etc.) Plastic card or rod strip materials from companies like Evergreen or Plastruct.
Sculpting materials like epoxy putty's, fimo (must be cooked) found objects like rocks, stones and so on.. its really pretty simple.. NO other game companies parts..

B. A base, plastic or one of my resin blanks.. keep in mind the larger the base allows you to show off your skills and creativity.

C. Your own ideas, or you can sculpt a base to fit in with ANY of my existing lines.

D. Have fun.. Pretty Simple.

Entry Deadline is October 15, 2011

Changes Coming to Dragon Forge Design

Ill be making some changes soon with Dragon Forge Design,

THE END OF THE DRAGON FORGE DEAL..

The first will be the ending of the Dragon Forge Deal Bonus program I stared a couple years ago to reward people for purchasing larger amounts of bases. I started this program when the recession hit a couple years ago and I wanted to add a little something extra to peoples orders who were loyal customers and ordered from Dragon Forge Design.

Since that time my site has grown and so has volume and to be honest the program has become a bit difficult to keep track of what extra items I should be adding to whose orders.. Actually more like a small nightmare ..so as of May 15 2011 the Dragon Forge Deal will end.

But don't panic yet.. Ill be creating some sort of a new rewards program to start June 1st of which I will have details of later. I think it is something that people will like.

NEW PRODUCT..LOTS OF IT!!

I will also begin to expand my conversion bit and terrain range this year. Up till recently Ive been a one man shop. I do it all from concept, sculpting, molding, casting, packing and shipping orders.. Ive begun to use outside sculptors like Lee Langston On the Omega Prime Series and some exploration into the world of digital sculpting of which you will see a lot more from in the next few months.. I mean a LOT more.. and soon I hope to get extra help and the molding and casting areas of things..simply put Dragon Forge is growing and growing fast..I do a lot for one person.. and with the additional help I'm going to blow the "Doorsof the Hinges" in the next few months..
So stay tuned and keep an eye out..

Until then if you have been wanting to take advantage of the Dragon Forge Deal you have until May 15th to do so..after that it ends.

Dragon Forge News- Materials Prices Going Up On Everything...

Over the last few weeks Ive been getting increases in all my materials costs from Resin to plastic bags and everything in between. Anywhere from 5-10%. Pretty much everything I use to make my product line.

Will this mean prices increases? Yes, probably on a few select items like some of my larger heavier bases like the large Oval bases and the 120mm round bases. You will begin to see these increases slowly over the next few weeks.

I'm trying to reduce costs by buying in larger volumes for price breaks but it also means a large investment on my part. But my goal here is to continue to bring you high end quality product at a fair price.

In the spirit of Rick Priestley’s classic grav-attack build, this contest challenges converters, hobbyists, and scratchbuilders to create a vehicle to be used for tabletop wargaming using random bits of stuff and a lot of creativity. Many of the skills of being a strong miniature hobbyist will be needed to do well in this contest, not only vehicle construction and painting but also photography, concept creation,miniature painting, and terrain set-up.

And best of all, hes announced Rick Priestley has been added as a judge!

New Base Series From Dragon Forge Design - Preview of Project "Omega"

Well it's time for a new sneak preview of a new base series that I just got in from one of my new sculptors working for me.

Here is the thing, we don't have a name for this set yet.. Ive give it the working title of "Omega" but I think we need something more clever than that.. so Ill work on that.

The set has been designed to have a very clean look of the inside of a space ship or on some future sci fi world.. these are the first 5 sets and Lee is working on more.. so lets hear what you think about them and have to say!

First 3D Prints Back of New Engine Kit Intakes

Here is a quick picture of the prints I received today of the Jet engine intakes. Ill start molding this week. I hope to receive the rest of the engine kit the end of the week.

Also here is a picture of the new Ammo Belts and spent shell casing test sets we have in the works. This is a test set and we will do sets larger and smaller in size to give a large variety.
The plan is to do 2" strip of ammo feed belts with matching spent shell casings to go with them.

They will be cast in pewter.

The cool thing about the ammo feed belts is they are designed to hook together so you can create longer lengths.

I thought Id post a picture of the engine disassembled . The artist sent it to me the other day to show how the parts look separate.

If all goes well it goes off to the printer tomorrow!

Dragon Forge Design Goes Digital ! Sculpting that is!!

Today I am announcing a new addition to the Dragon Forge Line up, a new line of Vehicle conversion parts and eventually entire Vehicle Kits.

These will all be done by digital sculptors now working for Dragon Forge Design.

The first parts in the pipeline will be Turbine Intakes with separate inlet fans and housings for customizing. They are 1" or 25.4mm Outside diameter.

The first parts have been sent off to be printed and I hope to get them into molds net week for test casts.

Well this complete multi part Jet Engine kit for example.

This is just the beginning of something very big here at Dragon Forge and we look forward to bringing you all sorts of creative and new products.

FINALLY Added 8 New Urban Rubble Base Sets To The Dragon Forge Store!

Today I finally got the 8 mew Urban Rubble base sets I have been working on uploaded and added to the Dragon Forge Store For sale in the Urban Rubble Section.

While working on them I was using the Stalingrad working title but for right now they are in the Urban Rubble section.

Below are painted examples of them in the Gray Brick paint jobs I have been using on the Urban Rubble examples up to date, I hope to get the entire series painted as Red Brick soon for a different look.

Molds are being Made, New Urban Rubble soon!

Just wanted to post a quick update, I'm making molds, casting masters, making more molds.. painting copies for photos and completely rebuilding the Urban Rubble Page for my site.

I hope to offer these for sale by the end of next week.

In the mean time Ive a few more sets I'm sculpting that I hope to show this weekend and then get this release ready to go live!

So keep an eye out for the announcement.

Urban Rubble - Stalingrad Expansion Part 6 - 40mm and 120mmx 95mm Oval Bases Sets

Yes, it's time again for another update in the Stalingrad project. While I have been dealing with getting shipped the wrong resins or having them damaged in shipment..Ive found some time to model a two more sets for this new Series.

The first is a 120mm x 95mm Oval base depicting a piece of damaged asphalt street with sunken rail lines for a street car and some rubble along the edge. Would make a great flight base, heavy Weapons base or even a Large Monster for you Sci-Fi players.

The Second set is a 40mm Round base set with brick rubble and some scattered boards.

Up next will be a 2nd 40mm set with concrete and steel factory ruins and maybe 1 more 60mm base and a couple Hero sets..Can't forget the Bases for your Hero's!!!

I'm starting to get them in rubber now so they will soon be ready for order!

Urban Rubble - Stalingrad Expansion Part 5 - 25mm Bases Sets

Today I'm showing off 2 sets of 25mm bases Ive done for my Urban Rubble Stalingrad Series.

The first set is done in brick rubble with some random wood board rubble. Its a set of 10 bases.

The second set is done in broken concrete factory ruins with added metal debris. Things like pipes, I beams, corrugated Steel and so on.

Both sets have received a light coat of Mr. Surfacer 1200 primer to seal them for molding. It also helps me find any sever undercuts and hollow spots that the Mold rubber would catch and tear in.

I filled all those holes and they will be ready for molding soon.

Urban Rubble - Stalingrad Expansion Part 4.. A 3rd Base

So I finished up 60mm Base three tonight. It's a simple base with a small portion of a wall section in a rubble pile made for prone MG crews to hide behind. Pretty simple but should be an effective base.

For Sci-fi modelers should make a great base for walkers.

I took pictures from three views on this base.

My next bases will deal with some street sections. This will be another 60mm base and a 120mm x 95mm base. Not sure how I will tackle them so stay tuned and find out with me.

Urban Rubble - Stalingrad Expansion Part 3.. Finished Models!

So tonight I bring you Part three of the Stalingrad expansion article with pictures of the two corner bases pretty much finished. I may add a few small of rubble to them here and there..its more of a sit and look at them for a couple days and think about it time. I do want to leave plenty of room to base figures and if the modeler wishes to ass more debris that will be up to them.

Same will go for things like shell and bullet marks. While the resin I use is very durable, it does work well with sharp hobby tools so adding shell marks is easy. Makes them more customizable.

The next five pictures are shots for all four sides so you can see the bases.

On one base I added some corner stone and a plastered interior wall with damage.

This next base is a third base I started tonight. Just a rubble pile to place a prone MG crew on.
Minimal coverage. I plan on a couple more like this. One being a fox hole like base.

This is the end of part three. There are many more to come..

Stalingrad Expansion Update - Part Two

I did some more work today on the two corner base sections.

I added a wood floor section to the base on the left and the interior brick wall on the base to the right.

Ill add the floor to this base next.

I may add some exterior stone dressing to one of the bases and some interior wall finish like plaster or wood paneling.. still doing research. Since the buildings in Stalingrad were primary brick and wood, the wood burnt up fairly fast leaving empty brick ruins.

Next I will add some interior rubble and damage the floor some more..but I will be careful to leave plenty of room to add figures.

Added one more picture with some rubble damage added.

Urban Rubble Work In Progress- Stalingrad Expansion

I'm doing a whole series of new bases to go into my Urban Rubble Series Which I will call "Stalingrad"
A client wanted bases to game the Battle for Stalingrad in 28mm but didn't want shell casings and bones on the bases and wanted a more "Brick and Boards" feel as the city of Stalingrad was mostly built of wood and brick.

A few example pictures of the feel I am going after.

Here are the beginning of two larger corner position pieces that will cast as separate terrain pieces and as 60 and maybe 80mm Bases. Right now I'm just building the wall sections out of cast brick wall sections and magic sculpt.They are to be used as Mortar and Heavy Machine Gun positions.

I placed them on top of 60mm bases to give you an idea of scale.

Next will be to add the interior wall to the wall section on the right and then the floor sections into them. Also interior wall surface like damaged Lath and plaster.

Modeling Project Using the Sanctuary Diorama Details Set

Part One- Modeling

I thought Id do a little Modeling project to show how to use the Diorama Details set DD-S-001 along with the new RBSA-015 Sanctuary 190mmx120mm Oval Base and some SRBTEMP-001 and SRB-003 Temple 20mm and 25mm square bases to make character bases fr your army.

I chose pieces from the Details set that best fit the 20mm and 25mm bases and the Large Oval.
The goal was to leave plenty of room to base figures yet make the base more visually exciting.

I glued each piece to the chose base with a good CA glue (super glue) and filled the gaps with Magic Sculpt. On the Large Oval I used Magic Sculpt to blend the fallen pillar piece to the base. I textured the putty with an old toothbrush.

I set everything aside to dry.

I'm working on some new Tokens and counters but Id love to hear what you guys would like to see..

So lets have a "Design A Tokens and Counters Set" Contest!!!

So here is the Deal, Send me Via email at dragonforge@gmail.com your ideas and just write the best description and even send sketches or pictures along to help me with your ideas!

Better yet if you feel like sculpting a set..have at it!

I will pick the top 3 and make them into brand new sets and the winners will get Free Copies of their sets!!! And then make them available for sale to every one after!

Dave used on of my SQP-001 1 inch Square Mini Plinths to display his work.

Painter Spot Lite - Paint Vagrant and Contest!!!

Today Id like to spot lite some painting work by one of my customers Brian Bivona of Paint Vagrant .

Retooled Power Cables

I have also retooled and remolded all my Power Cable Sizes and will now offer them as a sampler set and as sets of individual sized to meet your converting needs.

Lengths increased from 2 inches to 3 inches also giving you longer lengths to work with.

Cast in pewter they allow you to bend and twist them into the shapes you need with out flexing back like steel wire will do. Making conversions a breeze!

I have also had to make a s light price increase to adjust for increased materials and labor costs.
